Of Mice and Men

Movie Rewind Weekend

Movie: Romy and Michelle's High School (and Elementary/Junior High) Reunion

Three childhood girlfriends have definitely multiplied! With Becky living on the other side of the country it isn't easy to gather our broods together for a reunion, which makes it a feat only managed every few years. We were so grateful to nab Becky for a few hours during her marathon road trip and the opportunity for Max to play with Ashley's boys. Although we have added a couple of girls to the mix, this reunion was definitely ruled by the boys!

Walker (5), Harrison (3), Max (4), Graham (6), Absent - Jacob (10)
Babies: Saywer (6 weeks), Sarah (1), Elizabeth (6 months)

Real men don't wear shirts

The third child has to go with the flow

A true flashback in time: Walker and Harrison are exact replicas of their father as a child, a fact I know because I played with both their mother AND father when we were Walker's age!

Movie: The Lion King

One tribe moved out and another moved in! College roommates Aunties Beckers and Sally (and cubs) trekked to Greenville for a performance of the Lion King. The pack was only missing Auntie Lala.

William accompanied us to the actual show and proved to be a perfect date! The costumes were spectacular, leading William to repeatedly remind himself, "The hyenas aren't real. They are just people. They are just people."

Movie: The Great Mouse Detective

Lions weren't the only animals we spotted! Soon after arriving Max and William completed an inside scavenger hunt to find their own copies of the book Mice on Main. The book chronicles a family of mice who go on an adventure in downtown Greenville. Bronze mice mark the locations of each family member's favorite spot on Main Street...if you can find them!

This way!

Any mice over here?

Better mark our path so we can find our way home!

Perhaps the trolley would lead us there fastest!

Looks like Max found the wrong species...
why does Greenville have so many bronze figures?

Spotted another one!

Any mice up up there?

We didn't find all of them, but it was a successful hunt!

Movie: Guess Who's Coming To Dinner Swim?

Summer in South Carolina is not for the weak. Or the young. Temperatures over 100 degrees and air quality warnings forced us inside. In an effort to provide the kids with an outlet for their energy, Jason and I suggested going to the splash area at a local community pool, the Kroc Center. We enthusiastically described the amenities, emphasizing the small crowd at this secret gem.

Not long after arrival we began to suspect we had fostered a false impression. The number of individuals with tattoos that we encountered in the waiting area was our first clue. Then we made our way to the pool.

Imagine 200 pairs of eyes turning your way as you open the door. It was evident that monogrammed, polka-dot bikinis, Vineyard Vines pink and green turtle swim trunks, and a brightly-colored-designer-bathing-suit-accented-with-rhinestones was NOT the typical attire. The pool was so crammed with bodies we could hardly find a place to enter. Several minutes of 3 adults trying to supervise 4 kids (including two 1 year-olds) convinced us we had to confine the children to a specific area if we were to have any hope of not losing one.

Max and William went wild and had a fantastic time. Andrew flew down the slide with hysterical laughter and Sarah loved racing through the sprays. But after fighting for a place to stand, witnessing many dubious parenting techniques and Jason's discovery of a bandaid attached to his leg - which did not belong to him - we decided it was time to go.

After arriving home Sally attempted to console Jason by telling him, "William had a bandaid on when we left and he doesn't now. So maybe it was his that you found...or maybe there were 2 bandaids floating around!"

Movie: The Hangover

You know it has been a crazy weekend when you wake up in mismatched pajamas with the posters off the wall! After a fierce chase with the chainsaw ("I'm going to cut you up!") and a potential homicide by the motorized Bobcat, the decision was made: the 48 hour play date is officially over.

It was an Oscar-worthy weekend. What will be the next new release for entertainment?
