Boo to You!

Sarah's love for flamingos and one-legged stances is widely known. A friend gave her a flamingo costume months ago, which has been hanging in her closet. She would go to the closet and touch each item on the  rack saying, "Pretty dress, pretty dress, sweater...'MINGO!" She has also informed everyone since last June that she was going to be a flamingo for Halloween.

Another generous friend offered Max a dinosaur costume, which he liked a lot. But after trying it on he said, "Mommy, I know you like for me and Sarah to match, so if you want me to wear something else I will." My sweet boy knows me so well! Together, we came up with the idea of the zookeeper. Max was eager to catch his sister!

The Flamingo and the Zookeeper

Halloween is a family affair, so Mommy and Daddy needed costumes, too!  Sarah also loves the baby giraffe, Kiko, at our zoo. So I became the Mommy Giraffe with Baby Kiko in the carrier. It was NOT a clever way to tell people that I was pregnant as some others believed! (I am not pregnant.)

Our first costume occasion was trick-or-treating at Daddy's office.
Sarah was eager to see the Gorilla again, but only through the glass window!

Sarah was not a fan of handing out candy instead of receiving it!

And finally Halloween night!

Jack 'O Lanterns

Since the official start of Fall, heralded by the arrival of pumpkin scones at Starbucks, Max has been talking about carving pumpkins. He was completely clear about the mission; there would be no shirking of duty like last year when we postponed and postponed until Halloween was over. Then Sarah spotted the cat carving pattern at the store and she was onboard, too. Let the first Richards family pumpkin carving commence!

Soccer Star

Introducing soccer's newest superstar...

Sarah?

She certainly thought it was her field to shine on and she did excel at letting the players kick the ball at her. Maybe she will be a goalie one day...

But this was Max's soccer season!

Last year: Max spent more time following Kyle than he did following the ball.

This year: He was a focused, kicking, scoring machine!

Max scored the first goal in the first game of the season

Although he did still find time to connect with his friends.

He also learned some important ball handling skills.

Second goal of the game!

All the confusion and changing teams at the beginning of the season was worth it because these kids played really well together. Several of them have been friends since they were babies, but Max was thrilled to discover two kids from his class happened to be on the team as well. Go, Snow Leopards!

 Cheering each other on!

 The thrill of scoring...

and the boredom of waiting your turn to play!

Meanwhile on the sidelines...
Sarah always found ways to amuse herself and make new friends!

By the final game, the Snow Leopards had only lost once. Max scored at least once (usually multiple times) in every game.

And they ended the season with another WIN!
