The Munchkin Basketball League was filled with cutthroat competition, the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat. Or maybe it was filled with a lot of little kids racing around the court without (technically) keeping score...

Each team had a first grade "ringer", who scored the majority of the points and appreciated the finer points of the game, like dribbling. Nate was the Black Team's lead scorer and Max's new hero. After passing Nate in the hall at church he giddily exclaimed, "Nate said hi to me! He knows me from basketball. Maybe next year when I get taller I will be as good as Nate."

Max's enthusiasm for basketball increased each week. He made 21 shots during his last 15 minute practice session and scored during several games. Check out those ball-handling skills!

To become as good as the Max requires lots of practice. Baba helped teach some of the proper techniques, but Sarah was the real coach at home.

She insisted on accompanying Max outside to practice by saying, "Baby coach b-ball!"
