Building A Lego Party

Max's actual birthday coincided with the day of his party this year, so it was fun all day from sunrise to sunset! 

The gift that keeps on giving - a giant lego set with 859 pieces!

The staff performed a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday for their special customer!

Legos have been Max's favorite activity for the past year, so it was the perfect theme for his party! Max wanted to invite everyone he has ever known to the celebration - his entire class from this year, his entire class from last year, church friends, soccer friends, friends from the playground, etc…but when we suggested doing an "all boys" party, he was onboard! Since Mommy and Daddy were out of the country immediately prior to his birthday, most of the party-planning was done in advance. However, the impending rain in the weather forecast necessitated many last minute changes! Rain couldn't dampen Max's excitement...

Max's favorite dessert items were the lego candy blocks, which can actually be used for building!

Sarah's favorite were the marshmallow pops decorated to look like lego heads!

We were still able to have the food outside on our covered porch, but some of the lego decorations wouldn't stick to the walls thanks to the humidity. We were ready to party anyway! 

Each child chose a lego block as they arrived and the color signified which team they would be on. The  teams leaders received an individualized scavenger hunt map that led them to activities in each room.

Everyone gathered in the kitchen to color and decorate a lego man as we waited for all the guests to arrive.

Off to start their scavenger hunt! 

The living room contained an activity to build-your-own-lego-car and race it against your teammates on the ramp! There were 3 different cars to choose from and assemble. The packages included all the pieces, directions, and a lego man driver. The kids then took their cars home at the end of the party!

The study contained Max's new Lego Creation game. A player builds what is pictured on the card and the other players have to guess what it is. 

In the den, the kids found several game options. The first involved passing legos through a plastic tube from one partner to another. The idea was to shake the tube to get the legos to slide, but one set of kids wanted to blow them instead. This game was discontinued after a team slobbered all over the tubing!

What game looks like long rows of legos? Twister! The kids needed some type of game to wiggle since we couldn't go outside. Twister is always a crowd pleaser! 

And the Four-in-a-Row game also reminded us of lego pieces…ok, we were desperate for some more indoor activities for the party!

Back to the kitchen for some more lego challenges: tower building and writing your name using lego pieces!

I must admit, I was pretty nervous about having 20 little boys running around inside my house, but these kids were AMAZING. They participated in all the activities with enthusiasm, and no one had to be corrected or even told to be calmer! We were so impressed with Max's friends - they are precious people! Most of them loved the car-building and racing activity the best, but Max claimed his favorite part was blowing the whistle to change activities!

Rectangular pizza with pepperoni and rectangular juice boxes (to look like legos, of course!) and dessert were outside. Some people might say that this Mommy enjoys a theme party...
