Home Sweet Home
Six years ago when Jason and I moved back to Greenville, we fell in love with the older neighborhood in which we now live. Our daily walks with Max always take us down my favorite street in Greenville, Crescent Avenue, and past one house that would make me sigh and comment to Jason, "I love that house." And Jason would reply, "It's not for sale."
Then a year ago, we were informed that it would be going on the market. We arranged to see it prior to the listing. Surprisingly, the interior of the dream house did not quite match the exterior. Although initially put off by the amount of renovations necessary, we made an offer but were unable to come to terms at that time. For some reason, I still continued to picture us in the house and to subject my friends to driving past it to see what might have been. And finally, it happened. The dream house is ours.
However, Dream House or Money Pit remains to be seen. We are anticipating spending the next four to six months renovating the bathrooms, kitchen, wiring, windows, etc. The house has incredible bones and the contractor told us he had rarely seen a house that was so well built and worth the trouble of renovating. But seriously, the toilets are from 1923. Who knew they had indoor plumbing in Greenville in 1923?
Thus, a whole new adventure begins! I am thrilled, but also nervous about this undertaking.In the end, I just hope that it is a place that Max will love and where we can enjoy raising our family. Follow along with the excitement and trials of renovations as we create our new home!

Party Animals
A recent trip to Louisville was one long party for creatures of all varieties!
The Louisville zoo brought out the animal in Max, Jack, and twins William and Marie as they explored the animal habitats and acted out animal sounds on the carousel. Because Max has read "Goodnight, Gorilla" 963 times recently, he was thrilled to race around the gorilla enclosure introducing himself to his favorite characters!
The evening brought an outdoor party with a bounce house that was the perfect size for pint sized party goers. Max was thrilled to bounce with Ansley, although a few of the older kids had trouble jumping off the inflatable wall without landing on him. One boy would yell, "Look out, baby!" and then launch himself like a cannonball on the victims below. More time with Jack and a quick visit with Amanda and Jasper made the night even better.
The main event of the weekend was Nana and Papa Mike's Anniversary Party! Despite an aching ear and temperatures that were much chillier than expected, Max did his part to liven up the gathering. Showing off for his grandparents' friends, blowing bubbles, chasing his cousins, and climbing the gorgeous staircase of the historic home kept Max busy, busy, busy until the long drive home to SC. And then, the party animal slept - even the wildest animal must rest eventually. Goodnight, Gorilla.

Legally Baby at 18 Months
Dear Max,
You celebrated 18 months with a bang...and a boom. And another boom. "Boom" is currently your favorite word and you enjoy saying it (and creating the accompanying sound by dropping things) over and over and over. You were ecstatic when there was a thunderstorm recently and you could say "Boom" with each clap of thunder. Also, on your 18 month birthday, you decided to speak your first sentence: "I like bubbles." (Even grammatically correct - my little genius!)
Max, you are certainly becoming more independent and ready to do things without assistance. You have even developed cunning and a talent for manipulation. If it isn't time for a snack, you will get the Cheerios book and hand it to us so that we will be forced to give you Cheerios to complete the book activity. It's educational, Mom! Eating, climbing, and imitating grown ups are all things you want to accomplish alone. Often, you throw your hands up over your head in success or grab your hair as if to suggest that you can't take the madness!
You are crazy about airplanes and cars! Whenever an airplane flies overhead, you stop what you are doing to watch in fascination. Lucky for you, we are close to three air fields, so you have many opportunities to marvel at the wonder of flight. We also spend lots of time in the sunroom watching cars go by and the trucks that rumble down the street. And whether it is your toy cars, push buggy or the van at the zoo - you are happy as long as it has wheels and a steering wheel! I believe this is a forerunner to an interest in travel like Mommy and Daddy....
Max, we are excited about all the upcoming changes for our family in the next few months and the opportunity to share it all with you!

Man on the Run
CRIME BRIEFS
SUSPECT: Maxwell Daniel Richards
PLACE: Haywood Mall
ALLEGED CRIME:
The suspect entered the department store at approximately 10:45 am on May 1, 2009. The suspect and his accomplice went directly to the shoe department and were observed to be examining the merchandise closely. The accomplice made a short phone call and both parties were seen leaving the store at 10:55. A 10 minute period elapsed and then the suspect and his accomplice hurried back into the store. The suspect was furtively glancing around while being rapidly pushed in a stroller by his accomplice. Due to their suspicious behaviors, staff attempted to observe them unobtrusively via hidden camera. The suspect and accomplice returned immediately to the shoe department. They then pulled 2 shoes from the stroller. One shoe appeared to be a white sandal for a female, size 10, and the other shoe was a small slipper for an infant. After redepositing the shoes on the shelf, they quickly raced from the store. The crime they are charged with is a Hit and Return.
Please contact Law Enforcement if you have any knowledge of this suspect or the alleged crime. Help put this criminal behind bars.

Had I planned for my child to have Krispy Kreme donuts before he is even 1 1/2? Definitely not. But what person can resist the neon "Hot and Now" sign beckoning you to warm, sugary heaven? Certainly not this Mommy!
