Max's Going to the Hospital Book

This is Max. He is going to the Hospital for a special operation.

Mommy takes Max to meet Dr. Abrams before the operation. The doctor tells Max that he can wear his pajamas to the hospital, but cannot have anything to eat or drink before his operation.

On the Big Day, Max gets to watch a new Little Bear video before they go to the hospital. When they get to the hospital, Max explores the room while his Mommy talks to the nurse. The nurse takes his temperature and blood pressure. She is very nice and introduces him to other nurses. They all admire Max's blanket and tell him that he is very cute.

Max puts on a special gown that ties in the back. He picks purple for Furman. Mommy and Daddy have to wear funny hats and gowns too.

The anesthesiologist comes in to meet Max. He makes duck quacks while he listens to Max's heart. Max waits for a long time before his operation. He plays games with Mimi and his blanket. Then he starts to feel a little nervous and wants to sit on Mommy's lap.

Finally, a doctor comes in and writes on Max's neck on the spot where the surgeon will cut. Max gets into a big crib that roles down the hall to the operating room. Mommy and Daddy walk with him and hold his hand. At the operating room, Mommy holds him before the nurse takes him inside. Max takes his blanket with him. Max breathes in some special gas and goes to sleep.

When he wakes up, Mommy and Daddy are waiting for him. He is very confused and upset. He has wires and goo all over him and a bandage on his neck. Max is very thirsty. Mommy holds him while he drinks juice and he begins to feel better. The doctor brags about what a good patient Max was and says the operation went well.

Max goes home and has more juice and waffles. He gets to watch TV as much as he wants. His favorite people come to visit and bring balloons and cards and presents. Max is a little sore but happy.

The next week, the doctor calls and says the results of the biopsy are normal. Mommy and Daddy and Max are all very happy.
