Day of the Big 3

Sarah's birthday coincided with Grandparent's Day and the Spring Sing at her preschool. So even though she doesn't usually attend school on Fridays, she got to spend part of her birthday with her grandparents and her best friends!

The 2K class performed two songs (unfortunately we sat on the wrong side of the sanctuary without a zoom lens) while standing on risers. Sarah's family was placing odds on whether she would fall off the riser, but she managed to stay on throughout the performance. Another child in her class took a tumble at the end, but our child was more coordinated than we thought!

Sarah is third from the left on back row
Sarah has been very interested in dressing up lately. We have tried to be mindful of the overwhelming presence of "princess" culture for little girls, and haven't emphasized princess toys with Sarah. However, she has been asking about having a princess dress, so she received her first one and a matching doll for her birthday!

She often tells us that pink and yellow are her favorite colors, and although she has seen several of the Disney princess movies, she has not show an affinity for a particular one. I first purchased the dress and doll for Aurora because the pink dress was prettier. But when I mentioned that I bought her a "pink"present, she informed me that "Pink is my favorite color, but yellow is my MOST favorite." So back to the store to get the Belle dress and doll instead! (I actually kept both until her birthday to make sure she didn't change her mind!)

Our girl is a practical princess though - instead of high heels, she wears her sparkly tennis shoes with her princess gown! Makes it easier to ride her pink and yellow scooter, her other birthday present. Much more fun than a carriage!

When Sarah moved to her big girl bed, we told her the other twin bed was for special friends to spend the night. She and Max both begged to sleep in the same room as a birthday treat. They giggled and talked (and played) well past bedtime! The perfect ending to a fun birthday!
