Double Digits...10 Months Old

Dear Max,

You have become a first class explorer over the past month. Now that you are mobile, nothing is safe! The doorways used to be a sort of psychological barrier for you - even though they were not blocked, you wouldn't crawl through them. However, as soon as you discovered the vast territories that lay beyond, you were no longer intimidated by doors. Our house is truly your kingdom.

Despite what your Grammy believes, you really do not need "toys" at the moment because you make everything into a toy. Lids, tupperware, spoons, papers, cups, shadows....you find it all entertaining. However, balls are your favorite. You will chase them all over the house, knocking them away as soon as you get your chubby little hands on one. Lucky for you, our floors are uneven (it's an old house) so the balls roll and roll and roll to the lowest point in the room. It makes the game much more fun! When you crawl, you slap your hands down on the floor and giggle at the noise it makes. You also laugh when you clap or wave at someone, and we can't help but laugh too.

Max, you continue to babble all the time, letting us know that you have important things to say, but you just can't quite get the words out yet. One day it was "O" --pause-- "ba" --pause--"ma".... Seriously, "Obama" as your first word? I don't think we'll count that one. We don't want to insert politics into your baby book. Just like we aren't counting "ma ma ma" either (although I wanted to, naturally) because you are only making the sound and not connecting it to me. It's ok baby, you know about the fabulous rewards you will receive when you say "Mama" first and I win the bet with Daddy. You just remember those cookies, darling.

You adore your tiger striped blanket, or your "tiger pelt" as we call it. It is nice for you to be able to snuggle with it at night until Mommy and Daddy are brave enough to allow Frank (the real tiger) to sleep with you. Finally, you have figured out how to get back down from standing, which is a useful skill for someone who wants to stand up ALL the time.

Due in part to the gorgeous weather, you beg to go outside by crawling to your stroller and tugging on the wheels or standing up at the door and looking out. While on our walks, you pull yourself forward on the bar so you are leaning out of the stroller and can see everything. You have become more social, meeting Maddie and Adam, celebrating birthdays, entertaining your cousins, and playing with the other kids in your class.

We are so lucky to be your parents and watch you grow and change each day. We love our baby!

Love, Mommy
