Dino Disaster

Dinosaurs abound in our house: dinosaur models, dinosaur brownies, dinosaur books and lots of dinosaur clothes.

Since developing an intense interest in dinosaurs, Max has begged to see dinosaur bones. A family trip to view dinosaur fossils was part of his birthday gift, and Max has been eager to plan our excursion! Originally the idea was to travel to New York or Washington D.C., but those places are COLD at this time of year. After investigating options within driving distance, we learned of some great museums in the Raleigh/Durham area. Returning to our old haunts also provided the chance to visit with some wonderful friends and their families.

Sarah developed a high fever on the night prior to our adventure. A visit to the doctor provided no answers and as her fever dropped then disappeared, we decided to take the risk and go ahead with our plans. Even our friends had no misgivings about meeting for dinner, which provided the only fun for the weekend.

Feeling good in the car on the way to Raleigh...

The next morning

Max had trouble sleeping due to intense coughing, then Sarah woke up vomiting at 4 am. Poor baby continued to be sick for the next four hours almost without stopping. She refused to drink any liquids, so we eventually gave her Pedialyte through a medicine dropper. Poor Max's dreams of  a fun trip (dinosaur bones! a hotel with an indoor pool! new playmates!) were dashed and the disappointment was overwhelming. Sarah was so sick that we decided to wait until the worst of the vomiting had passed before attempting to drive home. Luckily for Max, he did have the opportunity to visit one museum with Daddy in an effort to keep him out of the hotel room and away from Sarah's germs.

Terror of the South!

Acrocanthosaurus

Could it be the Pterandon family from Dinosaur Train?

More than just dinosaurs!

Max had packed three dinosaur shirts and had trouble deciding which one to wear. He deemed the T-Rex shirt the best for dinosaur viewing.

Our inquisitive paleontologist loved the museum even if the visit was short! When he arrived back at the hotel, he begged for a quick swim while we packed.

The trip home with a violently ill child was better than expected and both kids were able to sleep.

The Great Sickness hung around our house for days afterwards, eventually infecting the entire family. Mimi sacrificed herself to take care of the four of us, then got sick as we were starting to mend. Whether you are 1, 5 or 33 years old, everyone wants their Mama when they are sick.

The dinosaurs never had it this rough...
